University Enrollment Management
The Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Management, at University at Albany, NY, had received very challenging graduate enrollment goals from the university, particularly for its department of Public Administration and Policy. The department had conducted some activities to increase graduate enrollments in the past, but did not have an overall plan nor the staff resources to implement it. Bonnie Edelstein was engaged by the Dean to develop this plan and direct its first-year implementation. Working in collaboration with faculty and staff, Bonnie developed a well-researched, practical, strategic approach for accomplishing the department's goals, based on market research and a study of best practices in graduate recruitment. This comprehensive enrollment management program included all the action plans, management tools and structures needed to implement and manage the program going forward. The final deliverables included recommendations for staff resources and a computer disk with all the forms and tools that had been custom-developed for this program.
In the first year of implementation, graduate enrollments increased 23%. The College has now established a staff position devoted to enrollment management and has institutionalized the program with great success.
